Visiting the global headquarters and manufacturing centre of Invertek Drives Ltd at Welshpool, UK, has helped inspire some engineers of the future, according to teaching staff from a local community college.

Always keen to demonstrate the career opportunities within its innovation, technical, production and sales teams, Invertek opened its doors to students from Bishop’s Castle Community College for a day, allowing them to see the range of roles undertaken by employees.

The Year 9 students toured the site where Invertek undertakes continual research and development into variable frequency drive technology and manufactures its range of Optidrive and other VFD products that are used to control motors and pumps throughout the world.

Several of them are looking to take BTECH Level 2 Tech Awards in Engineering and were using the visit to learn more about the roles available.

“Quite often young people on our doorstep are not aware of what we do or the career opportunities available,” said Julia Gough of Invertek Drives Ltd.

“We have a wide range of graduate opportunities as well as experienced roles in our innovation and technical teams. These are the people who constantly design new products and evolve our technology.”

The students also saw the high-tech production facility and the soon to be opened new 5,500sq m global manufacturing and distribution centre.

“It was a great visit that inspired the students, helping them make some important decisions on the direction of their future educational choices,” said Shona Glover from the community college.

“No doubt Invertek will see some new applications in a couple of years from some talented young people to help them continue their innovation.”
