A respected crane manufacturer known for its commitment to quality and innovation, recently faced a challenge with one of its cranes.
An existing variable frequency drive, responsible for controlling both the hoist and trolley functions, malfunctioned, causing downtime and impacting productivity. Rather than simply replacing the faulty unit, PT. NUSA KRANTECHNIK INDONESIA, sought a solution that would enhance the crane's performance and reliability.
They turned to Invertek Drives VFD technology.
"We saw this as an opportunity to not only fix the immediate problem but also improve the overall efficiency and functionality of our crane," said a spokesperson for PT. NUSA KRANTECHNIK INDONESIA.
The company turned to Sumitomo Drive Technologies for expert guidance, using their long standing relationship. SDT, recognising the need for a versatile and high-performance solution, recommended the Invertek Drives Optidrive P2. This VFD, with its ability to control both hoist and trolley functions simultaneously, offered a significant advantage over the previous single-function inverter.
"The Optidrive P2's dual function capability was a key factor in our decision," added the spokesperson. "It allows us to simplify the crane's control system while ensuring precise and reliable operation of both hoist and trolley functions."
However, the project presented some challenges. The new Optidrive P2 needed to be integrated with the crane's existing PLC system, requiring careful planning and execution. Sumitomo Drive Technologies, in collaboration with Invertek Drives, provided comprehensive support throughout the process, including parameter specification and development of a PLC program to manage both crane functions.
After intensive communication and testing, the Optidrive P2 was successfully installed and commissioned. The result is a crane with enhanced performance, improved reliability, and a simplified control system.
