Optidrive VSDs help shipping industry meet stringent CO2 reduction targets

Invertek Drives is experiencing significant growth in global demand from the marine sector where the company’s innovative AC inverters have been proven to save energy and cut CO₂emissions.

A new dedicated ‘Marine’ brochure provides detailed information on how Optidrive variable speed drives can be used to save energy and reduce CO₂emissions in a wide range of maritime applications.

Approved by the World’s largest ship and offshore classification society, DNV GL, Optidrive VSDs can cut the energy consumption of a variety of equipment found on marine vessels by as much as 60% - helping ship owners to meet CO₂reduction targets and reduce their operating costs.

The high-performance motor control capability offered by Optidrive P2 and Optidrive HVAC can be retrofitted in a number of different ship-building applications including the control of cranes, bow thrusters, winches, compressors, ventilation fan and pumps.

With large scale increases in global energy costs and the introduction of taxes and legislation relating to the industrial production of CO₂gases in the shipping industry, the need to reduce energy consumption and save money has never been greater.

Amendments to the MARPOL Convention came into force from 1st January 2013, making international shipping the first industrial sector to have a binding global regime in place to reduce its CO₂emissions.

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) stated that it ‘is confident that these new IMO measures will help shipping to reduce its CO₂emissions, per tonne of cargo carried one mile, by 20% by 2020 (compared to 2005), with further emissions reduction going forward.'

Sales and Marketing Director, Rhydian Welson, confirms, “The Marine sector is a huge global market that offers significant potential for Invertek. Showcasing all of the relevant details in a dedicated brochure makes it far easier for ship builders, ship owners and ship yards to find out how our products could benefit their operations by significantly reducing their CO₂emissions.”

The new brochure was originally used at the Asia Pacific Maritime 2014 exhibition which took place in Singapore earlier this year. Please contact your local sales partner to request a copy of the new Marine brochure or contact Invertek’s UK headquarters by emailing sales@invertekdrives.com.
