Single phase drive delivers huge savings

Invertek’s single phase variable speed drive can reduce energy consumption by up to 75% - saving domestic swimming pool owners more than £375 GBP a year on their energy bills.

The Optidrive E2 1 phase is a fully digital, fully enclosed single phase VSD designed to run off a domestic electricity supply.

Invertek’s Technical Manager, Kes Beech, says, “Ideally swimming pool pumps need to operate at two speeds – full speed for backwashing or cleaning of the filtration system, and a slower speed for normal, everyday filtration.  Most domestic sized swimming pools are fitted with standard pumps that operate at full speed all of the time – even when it’s not needed.

“This leads to an excessive amount of energy usage and costs money, not to mention increasing the need for regular maintenance as parts can wear out relatively quickly.”

The Optidrive E2 1 phase has significant potential in regions where private pools are popular, such as Australia, where consumers are particularly keen to reduce energy consumption and save money.

Invertek’s ‘pool pump saver’ was recently the subject of a feature on Australian news programme, Channel 7’s Today Tonight. Follow this link to watch Green Hous Managing Director, Todd Allender, demonstrate the Optidrive’s energy saving credentials.

The Optidrive E2 1 phase from Invertek effectively turns a standard low powered, single speed pump into an energy efficient, multi-speed pump. Being able to control the speed of the pool pump not only saves energy and money, but also significantly reduces noise levels compared with those emitted from a pump running at full speed all of the time.

Invertek Australasia Director, Brett Masters, says, “Variable speed drives have been used in commercial applications for a number of years, but the introduction of the Optidrive E2 1 phase is the first time this technology has been made available to the domestic market.”

The E2 can be used in a number of ways in addition to controlling pool pumps - householders can also control the speed of water features, spas, irrigation pumps and any other regular item that uses pumps.

Brett continues, “The Optidrive E2 1 phase is very easy to install and operate, making it perfect for consumers. The factory default settings are suitable for most domestic applications and if any custom settings are required, there are only 14 basic parameters to choose from.”
